performing thread lift
PDO Mono Rejuvenating threads are used to improve the condition of the skin.

PDO Threads treat superficial imperfections such as textural irregularities and fine lines, as well as improve facial contour when combined with other modalities.

As we age, we lose facial volume through bone resorption, muscle atrophy, fat loss and redistribution, resulting in noticeable changes in the overlying skin with sagging, loss of skin tone and contour irregularities.

Combined with the gradual loss of collagen and elastin, the skin develops wrinkles, becomes looser and begins to sag which further contributes to a tired and ageing face.

PDO Mono Threads
PDO Mono Rejuvenating Threads are not a traditional ‘thread lift’.

PDO Mono threads work to target the changes of ageing by providing support and stimulating collagen in the skin over a period of time, with a slow breakdown rate and long-lasting results.

The components of our range of PDO Mono rejuvenating threads actively work to stimulate collagen production which, over time, works to increase the volume and restore the shape of the face in a natural way.

PDO Mono Rejuvenating threads are made of a fine synthetic material called Polydioxanone (PDO) with a long history of safe and reliable use in medicine and surgery such as in sutures to close wounds. This material will dissolve over time and is completely eliminated from the body.

Mono Rejuvenating threads

These threads (called Mono threads) work to rejuvenate the skin by tightening and reconditioning. They can work to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and skin texture by stimulating collagen.

Mono threads are fine and thin lengths of PDO and do not have barbs or cogs which can cause underlying damage to the skin. They are loaded into a fine needle and inserted into the skin. These Mono threads are either single threads or multiple threads twisted together. The more PDO in the thread, the greater the collagen stimulation, so certain threads are better suited to certain areas.

Mono Rejuvenating PDO threads can be used to smooth, support and rejuvenate numerous areas. Treatment indications include:

  • Eyebrow rejuvenation and temples
  • Frown and forehead lines
  • Under eyes and tear trough
  • Cheek contour and accordion lines
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Lip lines and lip contour
  • Jawline and necklines
  • Decolletage
  • Generalised skin tightening and reconditioning across the entire face

Those with moderate to severe skin laxity, sagging or similar concerns may be referred to a plastic surgeon to explore surgical options in addition to energy-based treatment

FAQs

What does the treatment involve?

A full consultation and facial analysis for treatment planning is required, however treatment can be performed on the day.

Unlike traditional thread lifts, where there are very few suitable candidates, PDO Mono Rejuvenating threads are suitable for most skin types and concerns, provided there are realistic expectations about the treatment outcomes.  Occasionally, facial volumisation with dermal fillers is required prior to or on the same day as the PDO Mono Rejuvenating threads in order to obtain optimal results.

Ideal candidates for the procedure are those who need to rejuvenate and revitalise their face and neck, treat fine lines and wrinkles and with early signs of collagen and elastin loss.

Clients who have unrealistic expectations and who have excess sagging of the skin and loss of facial volume will not be a suitable candidate for the procedure. Those with thin and fragile skin and smokers may also not be suitable.

During consultation, the type, number and position of Mono thread placement that will be required to achieve the desired results will be decided. This is determined on a case by case basis.

Rejuvenation threads may require topical anaesthetic and is a comfortable procedure with minimal downtime.

How long do results last?

Results of PDO Mono rejuvenating threads takes up to 8 weeks to become evident, whilst collagen stimulation occurs. Follow up at 12 weeks is recommended to assess the initial results and perform a second treatment is required.

The results will continue to improve in the months following the procedure. Generally, results improve over the following 2-3 months with the actual thread itself dissolving after 6 months. The results of collagen stimulation then work to maintain the results after the threads dissolve. Results are expected to last for 12 months following the initial treatment with annual maintenance recommended.

It is important to remember that rejuvenation threads will not lift the skin and work solely on collagen stimulation, results will vary depending on the condition of the skin before treatment.

What happens after my treatment?

Following the procedure, there may be minor bruising at the incision points and some swelling and tenderness. Most clients find they can return to work the following day without any concern, however, we advise to avoid any important events for up to 2 weeks to allow any bruising or swelling to subside.

Discomfort may last longer in some individuals and those who have multiple threads placed at once. We advise a soft diet and limiting the degree of mouth opening until these feelings of discomfort have subsided.

It is important not to touch your face or manipulate the threads at all.

Aftercare is advised including avoidance of facial procedures, heavy exercise and sleeping on your sides or stomach. Full aftercare instructions will be provided following the treatment in order to minimise potential side effects and maximise the results in your individual case.

As PDO Mono rejuvenation threads are “heat sensitive” we do not recommend any heat-based treatments such as radiofrequency for 3 months following treatment.

A review appointment may be scheduled for 8  weeks post-treatment at which further treatment (either more threads or an alternative treatment such as dermal fillers) may be required to achieve the desired outcome.

What are the risks of treatment?

PDO Mono rejuvenating threads have been shown to be reliable and safe when used in medicine, however, all medical procedures have the potential to carry unwanted side effects and complications which will be discussed prior to the procedure.

While problems are rare, the most common issues come from the injection process rather than the threads and can include redness, swelling, itching, bruising, bleeding and skin infection.

Prior to treatment, a full consent process and review will ensure you are the right candidate for the procedure and alternatives may be explored. Threads cannot be performed in pregnant or breastfeeding women.

What are the costs?

The cost varies on the number of threads required for an optimal result and the indication for treatment. A full quote will be provided on consultation. The below are guides only.
