Understanding Forever Young BBL

Forever Young BBL by Sciton is a medical-grade light therapy protocol designed to target skin ageing at a cellular level. Unlike corrective laser procedures that treat specific concerns such as pigmentation or redness, Forever Young BBL is performed at regular intervals to maintain youthful skin function and prevent the visible signs of ageing.

This treatment uses precise wavelengths of light energy that penetrate into the dermis, gently heating the tissue and stimulating natural collagen production. Over time, the process helps to promote smoother texture, more even tone, and a clearer, more radiant complexion.

Clinical Research and the Science Behind BBL

A landmark Stanford University study (Bitter et al., 2012) examined the effects of long-term BroadBand Light therapy on gene expression within ageing skin.

The study found that skin treated with regular BBL sessions showed gene expression patterns similar to younger, non-sun-damaged skin, particularly in genes related to collagen synthesis, pigmentation regulation, and dermal repair.

In simple terms, this suggests that consistent BBL treatment may help to preserve youthful skin function and delay some of the visible effects of chronological and photo-induced ageing.

While Forever Young BBL does not stop the ageing process, it may assist in slowing its visible progression, contributing to long-term improvements in skin tone, clarity, and elasticity.

How Forever Young BBL Works

Forever Young BBL delivers broad-spectrum light energy that is absorbed by target structures within the skin, such as melanin (pigment) and haemoglobin (red blood cells). This gentle heating stimulates the body’s natural healing mechanisms, supporting collagen renewal and encouraging even skin tone.

When used in an ongoing maintenance protocol, this light energy:

  • Supports healthy cellular turnover and collagen production
  • Reduces the appearance of pigmentation, redness, and sun damage
  • Refines texture and reduces fine lines
Promotes overall skin clarity and luminosity

Because Forever Young BBL is non-ablative, it does not remove surface layers of skin, resulting in minimal downtime and ongoing improvement over time.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Forever Young BBL can be used to rejuvenate most areas of the body, including:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolletage
  • Arms
  • Hands

These regions are most exposed to environmental ageing factors such as UV radiation and oxidative stress, making them ideal for regular BBL maintenance.

Conditions That May Be Addressed

The Forever Young BBL protocol can be used as part of a preventative or corrective approach for:

  • Fine lines, enlarged pores, and texture irregularities
  • Uneven skin tone and dullness
  • Sun damage and pigmentation
  • Visible redness, capillaries, or rosacea
  • Early skin laxity and loss of elasticity

When performed consistently, Forever Young BBL can complement other treatments such as Halo Laser, microneedling, or injectables, helping to maintain healthy, resilient skin between more targeted procedures.

FAQs

What does the treatment involve?

The treatment is similar to a standard BBL Corrective treatment.

Before your first session, a comprehensive consultation is performed to assess your skin type, medical history, and treatment goals.

During the procedure, protective eyewear is applied, and a cooling gel may be used to enhance comfort.

The treatment involves passing the BBL handpiece evenly over the skin, delivering gentle pulses of light energy. You may feel a warm sensation similar to the snap of an elastic band.

Forever Young BBL uses lower energy parameters and multiple passes across the entire face (or body zone) compared to standard corrective BBL treatments. This allows for global rejuvenation with minimal irritation.

No anaesthetic is required, and the treatment typically takes 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the area.

How long do results last?

Following an initial course of treatments, improvements may be seen in:

  • Skin tone and clarity
  • Reduction of visible pigmentation and redness
  • Improvement in texture, pore size, and overall luminosity

For long-term maintenance, quarterly treatments are recommended as part of an anti-ageing skincare plan.

Clinical evidence supports that regular Forever Young BBL sessions may help sustain youthful gene expression patterns in ageing skin and reduce the appearance of photoageing over time.

Results vary based on lifestyle, sun exposure, and adherence to post-treatment care.

What happens after my treatment?

Mild redness and warmth are expected immediately post-treatment and usually subside within a few hours.

Some pigmentation may darken temporarily before flaking away naturally over 7 to 14 days.

Makeup can be applied following treatment, and most people return to normal activities immediately. However, strict sun protection and gentle skincare are essential to support healing and maintain results.

For optimal outcomes:

  • Avoid sun exposure or tanning for 2 weeks post-treatment
  • Use daily SPF 50+ and antioxidant-rich skincare
  • Delay other heat-based treatments (e.g. saunas, laser, or peels) for 2 weeks

Full aftercare instructions will be provided following your treatment.

What are the risks of treatment?

Forever Young BBL is considered a non-invasive treatment when performed by trained and licensed professionals. However, as with all light-based therapies, potential risks include:

  • Temporary redness, swelling, or warmth
  • Mild darkening of pigmentation before exfoliation
  • Rare blistering, burns or scabbing (from excessive heat exposure)
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation (especially in darker skin types)

Your practitioner will discuss all risks, contraindications, and realistic outcomes during your consultation.

BBL is not suitable for individuals who are pregnant, using certain medications, or have active infections or recent sun exposure.
