BBL Hair Removal treatment
Permanent hair reduction involves the use of laser, IPL or BBL devices to apply heat energy to the skin with the purpose to remove unwanted hair.

The treatment involves controlled flashes of broad band light which penetrates through the skin, is absorbed by the hair follicle and damages the follicle resulting in no further potential for hair growth. With BBL/IPL hair removal, unwanted hair can be removed and eliminated.

At Youth Lab we choose to use the Forever Bare BBL as our preferred hair removal device. BBL technology is the most revolutionary and effective method for permanent hair reduction.

The BBL provides a safer, faster, more effective and more comfortable treatment than traditional IPL and laser methods. The BBL technology also allows for an extremely even heating of the hair follicles and can target more hair follicles during a single treatment.

The BBL handpiece provides continuous cooling during treatment to keep the skin cool, making the treatment much more comfortable than other methods. The treatment time is less due to the power and repetition rate of the device.

Forever bare BBL is also one of the safest hair removal methods available. By providing energy in multiple bursts instead of all at once, the BBL keeps the skin protected and progressively raises the follicle temperature to the therapeutic level for hair removal. In doing so the BBL is also able to effectively treat the highest risk skin types.

Any area of the body can be treated with BBL hair removal. From larger areas such as the back, legs and arms to smaller areas such as the lip and chin. Because of the versatility of the BBL system these smaller areas can be treated more effectively and accurately without risk of complications.

In addition, larger areas can be treated much more quickly with less discomfort.

FAQs

What does the treatment involve?

Following a full consultation with our Dermal Therapists (who are also registered IPL/BBL technicians) your suitability for the treatment will be determined.

There are a few pre-treatment instructions that must be adhered too prior to having BBL hair removal.

These include:

  • No plucking or waxing the hair for at least 6 weeks prior to treatment
  • Ensure the area has been shaved the day of the treatment
  • Avoid sun exposure, sun tanning or fake tan in the 2 weeks prior to treatment
  • Avoid any cosmetics or creams on the area on the day of treatment.

This is to ensure the hair follicles to be treated are intact and the surrounding skin remains at less risk of damage during the treatment.

The procedure itself if comfortable and relatively quick. The therapist will apply the BBL device to your skin and generally there will be some slight discomfort, like an elastic band snapping on the skin. The skin will also feel warm. Afterwards only minimal discomfort is felt. The BBL hair removal system is much faster and more comfortable than any other device on the market.

How long do results last?

The results of BBL hair removal depend on completion of a full course of treatments.

As the treatment will only target hairs in the active growing phase (some hairs may be in the dormant resting phase during treatment), multiple treatments are necessary to target all unwanted hairs while they are in the growth phase. Depending on the client’s skin type, hair type, the area of hair that is treated (ie bikini versus chin) there may be a degree of variability between the number of treatments needed.

Generally, 3-8 treatments may be needed every 4-6 weeks with treatment intervals again dependent on the area of the face/body that is treated. 90% of hair reduction can be achieved by 6 treatment sessions.

As there may be residual hair follicles which have not been destroyed by the treatment we recommend intermittent treatments every year or so after the initial treatment course. Regardless, clients report a decrease in hair density with any hairs that may regrow over time. Overall the BBL hair removal system has a much higher patient satisfaction rate than other hair removal systems.

What happens after my treatment?

Common side effects of BBL hair removal include some redness and mild swelling as well as swelling to the hair follicle itself. This will settle down within 24 hours and post laser care creams and lotions may be applied.

It is important to avoid the sun after any BBL treatment and a broad spectrum SPF must be used. On rare occasions there may be small blisters, scabs and the reactivation of cold sores (when used on the upper lip). It is important not to pick or scratch as this may lead to infection, scarring and post inflammatory hyper or hypopigmentation.

Full post treatment and after care instructions will be provided following your treatment.

What are the risks of treatment?

BBL hair removal is a low risk treatment due to the controlled bursts of energy and skin cooling. It is the only method that can effectively and safely treat higher risk skin types (although many more sessions may be required).

BBL differs from IPL and it is important to note that not all IPL or laser hair removal systems are created equal. Due to lack of regulations many clinics offering hair removal services will use uncertified devices without adequate training. At Youth Lab you will only be treated by a trained and certified laser and IPL/BBL technician, registered with the Radiation Council of WA.

As with any IPL/BBL or laser treatment there may be a risk of infection, burns, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and scarring.

BBL hair removal cannot be performed in pregnant women, clients who are prone to keloid scarring, those who have had treatment with Roaccutane in the last 3 months and those who have only very white/grey or fine hairs.
