RF Microneedling (Genius & Intensif)

At Youth Lab, we offer Radio Frequency (RF) Microneedling, a non-surgical treatment that combines microneedling technology with radio frequency energy to address a range of cosmetic skin concerns and support a smoother, more refined appearance.

We utilise two advanced RF Microneedling systems, Genius by Lutronic and Intensif by EndyMed, with device selection based on individual skin needs and treatment areas. Both systems are designed to deliver precise, controlled energy to the skin’s surface in a comfortable and efficient manner.

Intensif - RF Microneedling treatment
Understanding RF Microneedling

As we age, collagen and elastin production naturally decline, resulting in visible changes such as lines, sagging, uneven tone and texture, and loss of definition. RF Microneedling directly addresses these changes by stimulating the skin’s natural regeneration mechanisms from within.

During treatment, ultrafine gold-plated needles penetrate the skin at controlled depths to create precise micro-channels. At the same time, radiofrequency energy is delivered deep into the dermis, heating the tissue and stimulating a wound-healing response that triggers new collagen and elastin synthesis.

This combination of mechanical micro-injury and thermal stimulation makes RF Microneedling an most effective modality for overall skin rejuvenation and tightening.

Unlike traditional microneedling, which treats only the superficial layers, RF Microneedling targets the deeper structural layers of the skin where collagen remodelling occurs.

Youth Lab’s Devices: Genius RF and Endymed Intensif

At Youth Lab, we utilise two gold-standard medical RF Microneedling systems, both recognised globally for their precision, safety, and results.

Genius RF (Lutronic):
The Genius system uses intelligent real-time impedance feedback to deliver consistent, customised energy to exact dermal depths. This allows for precise, surface-to-mid-dermal heating with minimal risk of surface damage. Genius RF is ideal for patients concerned with fine lines, skin texture, early laxity and maintenance-based rejuvenation.

Endymed Intensif (Endymed 3DEEP™ Technology):
The Intensif device utilises phase-controlled 3DEEP RF energy to penetrate deeper layers of the dermis for volumetric tightening and collagen remodelling. This system is particularly effective for acne scarring, moderate laxity, and overall skin tightening in the face, neck and body.

Both systems are FDA and TGA approved and can be adjusted to target precise skin depths – from 0.5 mm for delicate areas such as around the eyes, to 3.5–4 mm for thicker or more fibrotic tissue such as the cheeks, jawline or abdomen.

How RF Microneedling Compares to Other Systems

There are several RF microneedling devices on the market – such as Morpheus8, Potenza and Secret RF –  that operate using similar principles.

The Lutronic Genius and Endymed Intensif systems used at Youth Lab represent the latest generation of medical RF microneedling. Both deliver energy through insulated gold-plated needles with real-time monitoring to maintain consistency and prevent overtreatment.

While Morpheus8 and Potenza are well known for their effectiveness, Genius and Intensif offer precision due to intelligent feedback technology and uniform energy distribution –  resulting in controlled dermal heating and reduced downtime.

Benefits of RF Microneedling

RF Microneedling treatments at Youth Lab may assist in improving:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Early to moderate skin laxity (jawline, cheeks, neck)
  • Textural irregularities and large pores
  • Acne and post-acne scarring
  • Stretch marks (abdomen, thighs, arms)
  • Uneven skin tone and dullness

Following a treatment series, clients often report skin that feels smoother, firmer and more resilient, with refinement in tone, texture and contour definition

How RF Microneedling Works Beneath the Skin
  1. Mechanical Micro-Injury: The fine needles penetrate the skin to a controlled depth, creating micro-channels that trigger the body’s natural healing process.
  2. Thermal Stimulation: At the same moment, RF energy is emitted through the needle tips, heating the dermis to 60–70 °C — the optimal range for collagen denaturation and neocollagenesis.
  3. Remodelling Phase: Over the following weeks, fibroblasts produce new collagen and elastin fibres, thickening and tightening the dermal matrix. Skin becomes firmer, smoother and more elastic.

This controlled process results in long-term dermal remodelling without the surface damage or prolonged downtime associated with ablative lasers.

FAQs

What does the treatment involve?

Following your consultation with our Doctor, Nurse or Dermal Therapist and the formulation of a treatment plan you will be booked in for your procedure. We ask for you to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to treatment where your skin will be cleaned and a topical numbing cream will be applied.

The treatment itself takes around 30-60 minutes depending on the areas treated.

The Intensif™ / Genius  handpiece contains fine, gold-plated microneedles that deliver controlled radio-frequency (RF) energy into the skin. The depth and intensity of the treatment are adjusted to suit each individual and treatment zone.

During the session, you may feel warmth or a prickling sensation as the RF energy is released.

Immediately afterwards, the skin may appear flushed and swollen. Soothing products and sunscreen will be applied, and your practitioner may recommend complementary options such as LED light therapy or hydrating masks to support the recovery process.

How long do results last?

Early improvements in tone and texture can appear within two weeks, with continued collagen remodelling for up to six months. Results are long-lasting, especially with a series of three sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, followed by annual maintenance.

Your practitioner will design a treatment plan suited to your individual needs and may alternate RF Microneedling with other collagen-stimulating procedures such as Endymed FSR, Halo Laser or Clear Silk Laser.

What happens after my treatment?

Redness and swelling are common for up to 48 hours, occasionally a little longer depending on treatment intensity. The skin may feel warm and appear slightly flushed during this period. Most clients can resume normal activities soon after their session, provided appropriate aftercare is followed.

Small, temporary pinpoint marks may also appear as part of the normal skin response – these typically settle as the skin renews itself. It’s important to avoid touching or scratching the skin during this time to allow for a smooth recovery. Infection can occur if the skin is scratched or touched too much during this time.

Your practitioner will provide detailed aftercare advice to support comfort and to help you achieve the best outcome from your treatment.

Full post-treatment guidance will be provided, including how to keep the skin hydrated and protected. Following these directions carefully helps ensure comfort and supports the natural recovery process.

What are the risks of treatment?

RF Microneedling is a medical-grade procedure with expected downtime. Temporary redness, swelling, mild bruising, or flaking are normal.

As with any energy-based procedure, there is a small risk of temporary changes in skin pigmentation, including darkening (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) or lightening (hypopigmentation). Other uncommon side effects, such as irritation or minor surface reactions, may occur. Your practitioner will discuss all potential risks and safety precautions with you prior to treatment.

A full list of precautions and contraindications will be discussed at your consultation. Radiofrequency cannot be performed to those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have implanted metallic or electronic devices (eg pacemakers), current inflammation or infection and certain medical conditions such as active cancer, heart disease or who are immunosuppressed.

Pre-treatment preparation with pigment inhibitors are compulsory in certain skin types, this will be discussed at your consultation.
