The Sciton Clear V 1064nm Nd:YAG Vascular laser is the industry leader in the treatment of blood vessels and vascular lesions.Youth Lab are proud to introduce this state of the art technology to Western Australia.

Simply unmatched in the treatment of vascular lesions, broken blood vessels, capillaries, spider veins and redness the Clear V is powerful, yet comfortable with minimal recovery.

The Clear V uses 1064nm wavelength to effectively eliminate vessels within the skin, leaving the skin looking clearer and more refined.

The system works by selectively heating targeted veins resulting in powerful absorption of oxyhemoglobin (the red colour in blood), a process that provides superior clinical results.

What can the Clear V Vascular laser treat?

  • Capillaries
  • Spider veins
  • Blue veins around the eyes
  • Cherry angiomas
  • Rosacea
  • Vascular lesions including port wine stains

It is important to note that the Clear V does not treat deep leg veins, reticular veins or varicose veins. Specialist input and further investigations may be required.

Visible capillaries or vessels are most commonly found on the face or legs, and could be the result of several things. Rosacea, alcohol consumption, weather changes, trauma to the skin, pregnancy, aging,  genetics, certain skin disorders, exposure to the elements, and more can cause them to appear.

Capillary walls are usually very elastic, but can lose their ability to contract if they’re frequently dilated, aggravated, inflamed or weakened, causing them to remain enlarged and visible.

Vascular lasers treat conditions associated with broken or abnormal blood vessels by very selectively targeting  haemoglobin.

The Clear V emits a unique, high-power laser beam that is absorbed by the targeted blood vessels without affecting the surrounding tissues.

As the laser delivers pulses of light energy to the vessels, the heat generated by the treatment can create a localised clot or “blockage”, causing the outer wall of the vessels to shrink. This reduces blood flow to the area, consequently diminishing the visual impact of redness, and encouraging the body to remove the damaged or destroyed vessel to achieve a clear complexion.

Depending on the size of the vessels this can sometimes result in immediate visual clearance!

How does Clear V Vascular treatments differ to BBL treatments?

Both Sciton ClearV and Sciton BBL devices can be used successfully to target unwanted vessels. Different wavelengths or “colours of lights” are selected depending on the size, colour and location within the skin of the vessels or vessel networks.

Technically not a laser, but still a light based device the Sciton BBL device employs Broad Band Light to target unwanted redness and vessels in the same way as the ClearV 1064nm Laser but uses the 590nm, 560nm or 515nm wavelengths or “colours of light”.

These wavelengths target the more superficial or upper layers of the skin whereas the 1064nm Clear V laser can travel more deeply, perfect for larger, deeply rooted vessels.

Your treating clinician will select the device and wavelength best suited for you. Sometimes this can include a combination of both devices and treatment protocols.

FAQs

What does the treatment involve?

During your consultation, our clinicians will assess the areas of concern to determine your suitability for the procedure. Depending on the size, location,  amount of vessels and blood flow in the area to be treated your clinician will create a tailored treatment plan for you.

You will be advised on the expected number of treatments required and the maintenance intervals to maintain your results.

Some patients may be referred for further consultation prior to treatment to ensure any underlying vascular conditions (such as varicose veins, un-managed vascular insufficiency etc) will not interfere with achieving the desired results.

Following the consent process, you will have your photographs taken to allow results to be tracked and be prepared for the treatment.

During your treatment, you will be given protective eyewear or goggles to wear. The area will be cleansed or prepared and any hair in the area will be shaved if required.

A cool gliding ultrasound gel will be applied to assist the clinician in maneuvering the laser handpiece over the skin and maximise contact with the device.

In addition to the cooling gel, you will also experience a cold touch as the handpiece contains a contact cooling tip designed to protect the surface of the skin and improve comfort.

The laser is passed over the treatment area and pulsed, your clinician will regularly adjust the energy and settings according to what each individual vessel requires.

With each pulse, a small pinprick and mild heat will be experienced, smaller vessels can be almost painless with larger vessels having a deeper hot flick or hot “zip” feel. This sensation only lasts for the pulse and subsides immediately.

How long do results last?

Results last up to 6-18 months, with maintenance required.

What happens after my treatment?

In some cases vessels can immediately appear to disappear, however, they will require two to six weeks to fully break down and eventually clear away.

Initially, the vessels treated can appear to have changed colour or tone. These can look like different shades of pink, dark blue, purple/brown depending on their size. The vessels will continue to move through changes of colour and tone over the two to six week period until the body has fully cleared them away.

The time required does vary from person to person, their overall health and location treated. Larger vessels located on the outer extremities are usually slower.

Redness, localized swelling much like the appearance of “bug bites” can be visible for up to 24-48 hours. For larger vessel treatments, or treatments where many vessels are treated in one area, increased redness and temporary bruising can be possible.

Avoid hot water, steam, exercise or any activity which induces heat or flushing must be avoided for 24-48 post-treatment. For leg vessel treatments, avoiding exercise activity for up 72 hours may be required, as discussed by your treating clinician.

Achieved results can last from 6-18 months, in some cases permanently, however vary according to each individual circumstance. Maintenance treatments are recommended in 3-12month intervals or as needed.

Managing your specific triggers can be helpful in maintaining results. This includes wearing SPF daily, including good quality topical vitamin C in your skincare routine, avoiding aggressive over exfoliation.

You will also discuss specific recommendations with your clinician, including supporting skin treatments or home care suited to you.

What are the risks of treatment?

When performed by experienced practitioners in the appropriate medical conditions, the Clear V Vascular Laser  is very safe. The results speak for themselves however as with any medical grade laser there are some associated risks and expected temporary side effects.

  • Redness, which can persist for a few weeks after treatment.
  • Swelling
  • Bruising and darkening of the  treated vessels

Rarer more serious side effects include

  • Risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Staining of the skin (haemosiderin) due to iron in the blood.
  • Scarring or burns which is extremely uncommon. This is often due to inexperienced operators.

At Youth Lab we are fully registered and licensed with the Radiation Council of Western Australia and have a laser safety officer on site.
