I love a good brow shape and there are many different ways to enhance this lovely face-framing feature. Brow lifts are becoming increasingly popular and are incorporated into the majority of my client’s treatments. It is a subtle lift and usually, once you have had a brow lift it is hard to not discount it from your future treatments.
I also like to think of a brow lift as a counterbalance for heavier injections into the forehead. In this case, it is not a true brow lift, but it can help to maintain a slight curvature of the brow.
What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift using anti-wrinkle injections is a non-surgical treatment to lift the brow. It works best for those who want to avoid invasive procedures such as surgery with less downtime and is also more cost-effective.
The current trend of the eyebrow is full and arched and can be enhanced by the convenience of micro-blading, pencilling and shaping, or being a bit cheeky and using a filter app on your smartphone. The arched look can be achieved and enhanced by the use of anti-wrinkle injections. It is a non-permanent approach to helping you obtain your desired brow look.
My favourite brow lift is using a two-point injection method. Some clients may only require a one-point lift if their brow just needs a boost at the tail end or a little more medial. As an injector, we all have our favourite techniques for this treatment!
An added bonus to a brow lift is a slightly more visible eyelid, which helps those who need a bit of a boost due to hooding (minimal hooding that does not require surgical correction) and provides a slightly larger canvas for makeup application.
Who is a Brow Lift suitable for?
The majority of clients are good candidates for a brow lift, but not everyone is suitable, as you need to have a strong frontalis (forehead muscle) to lift the area.
A good candidate for a brow lift is someone who wants a subtle result and is not expecting the dramatic results obtained from a surgical lift. A brow lift is best suited to someone with a small skin fold in their eyes, as those with heavier eyelids may be less satisfied with the results and are at higher risk for an eyelid ptosis (droopy eyelid).
How does a Brow Lift Work?
The muscle behind the magic of a brow lift is the orbicularis oculi, which is essentially a sphincter muscle that closes inward. The results of the anti-wrinkle injection reverse this action and allow the muscle to be lifted upward at the specified injection points.
The eyebrows are released from the downward pulling action and the muscles of the forehead are able to lift the eyebrows up. The results can look amazing and give a more refreshed appearance and a fabulous arched and lifted brow.
Will it hurt?
If you have been injected in other areas with anti-wrinkle injection it feels the same, but if you are new to injectables it can feel like a little scratch followed by a small amount of pressure. A more descriptive example by a young male client receiving injections for the first time compared the sensation of an anti-wrinkle injection to that of a swollen pimple. Regardless of how you experience or describe the discomfort, it is very quick.
What happens after treatment?
There may be slight swelling to the injection site that will go down in 5 to 10 minutes after treatment and to quote RN Lili, it will look like a little “mozzie bite”. There is always a risk of bruising with any injectables and that can be covered with makeup. I advise to not touch the area for 4 hours after treatment to avoid displacement of product into an adjacent muscle. Displacement of product can cause a ptosis, which is the spread of the product into an adjacent muscle which can cause unwanted results.
When will I see results and how long will my brow lift last?
Results can take a few days to kick in and this varies from 3 to 7 days with full effect at 2 weeks. The results usually last 3 – 4 months and can also vary depending on if a client has a high level of physical activity. For those who have a high level of physical activity, you can metabolise the anti-wrinkle injection much faster and the duration of treatment may only last 2 months.
I am a big fan of a brow lift and if done correctly, it looks natural and compliments the facial structure in all the right places.
