As we age, our skin gradually loses its firm and youthful appearance.
The natural ageing process combined with sun exposure, environmental stressors, weight changes and poor skincare can result in a reduction of the quality, strength and elasticity of the collagen within our skin. Over time, the skin becomes lax, saggy with wrinkles, folds and loss of its luminosity.
Skin laxity is a common complaint and can be difficult to treat. It can be improved with the use of non-invasive, energy-based technologies such as the unique BBL SkinTyte II technology. With this technology, it is possible to promote new, healthy collagen which results in skin tightening and wrinkle reduction.
Tight, firm skin requires good elasticity. Elasticity means the ability of the skin to snap back or tighten after it has been displaced or pulled away from the body. Good elasticity depends on healthy collagen and elastin fibres, that lies very deep within the skin.
Collagen and elastin fibres act like small rubber bands that hold the skin tight against our body and pull the loose tissue back when it is stretched or pulled.

The SkinTyte II utilises infrared energy with fast-paced broadband light to effectively induce the body’s natural collagen and elastin production. This is executed through heating the tissues to initiate a healing response within the skin. The end result is skin that is healthier, firmer and younger in appearance.
The effects of the SkinTyte II treatment are an immediate tightening due to thermal exposure, resulting in a contraction of existing collagen and elastin fibres.
Longer-term, cells are stimulated which will assist in producing new collagen, elastin and other components within the skin. This can occur for up to 6 months after the initial treatment. This skin remodelling process results in a thickening of the skin and the shrinking of the elastin fibres, resulting in improvement of skin firmness.
SkinTyte II uses our popular BBL platform, and can be combined with BBL rejuvenation treatments for optimal results.
The treatment can target all aspects of the ageing process, from the deep layers of the skin through to surface irregularities, pigmentation and redness.

What does the treatment involve?
Prior to the treatment being performed, a full consultation with your doctors, nurses and dermal therapists will ensure that SkinTyte II skin tightening is the right treatment for your particular concerns.
Once a treatment plan has been determined your eyes will be protected with safety goggles or glasses. You will feel a warm and prickly sensation as the light is absorbed by certain areas. Once the skin is heated to the desired temperature, it is maintained until the treatment is complete.
The procedure will take approximately 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the area that is being treated. The BBL technology used in SkinTyte II is so advanced, that the filters can also be used on higher risk skin types (darker skin) without the risk of significant complications.
How long do results last?
The ideal number of treatments will vary for each individual. A personalised treatment plan will be provided, however, this can change at any time depending on your response to the treatment. Combining SkinTyte II with other treatment methods can also further enhance your results.
Generally, the number of treatments needed to see an improvement in skin laxity and sagging is 3 treatment sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart. Progress will be reviewed after the initial course of 3 treatments and other treatments may also be recommended.
It is important to note that with the normal ageing process, collagen and elastin degrades and less is produced naturally. Maintaining skin health with sun protection, use of antioxidants, appropriate skincare and a healthy lifestyle (eg. no smoking) is essential to maintain your results.
What happens after my treatment?
Following the treatment, there will be redness and warmth to the skin, however many can return to work and their normal activities straight away. Makeup can be applied but it is advised to avoid any excess heat, heavy exercise and sun exposure.
Redness may last a few hours. Results are dependent on the initial condition of the skin, the number of treatments performed, the areas treated and compliance with aftercare, lifestyle modifications and home skincare prescription.

What are the risks of treatment?
SkinTyte II skin tightening treatment is low risk due to the advanced technology of BBL.

The general downtime from the SkinTyte II treatment is minimal. This may include redness and some localised swelling which will decrease in a few days. Rarer side effects are burns and blistering due to settings being too high and in very rare cases post inflammatory hyper or hypopigmentation which is skin color changes that can last for many months. This can be treated but is understandably distressing.
Attending a clinic where there is medical supervision from doctors ensures the safety of your treatment and the effective treatment of any adverse events.
