Understanding BBL Forever Clear

BBL Forever Clear is an advanced, light-based procedure developed by Sciton, designed to address the key factors that contribute to acne-prone skin – including excess oil, surface bacteria, and inflammation.

Using specific wavelengths of light, Forever Clear targets P. acnes bacteria associated with acne breakouts. The treatment also works to calm visible redness and promote a clearer, more balanced skin tone over time.

Forever Clear is suitable for most skin types and can be performed on various areas of the body where acne and congestion occur,  including the face, neck, chest, shoulders, and back.

All Forever Clear treatments at Youth Lab are performed by qualified Radiation Council of WA–registered practitioners under medical supervision using Sciton’s BBL system.

How Acne Develops

Acne is a multifactorial skin condition influenced by oil production, clogged pores, inflammation, and bacterial activity within the sebaceous glands.

When the naturally occurring P. acnes bacteria multiply within blocked pores, this can trigger an inflammatory response, leading to papules, pustules, or cystic lesions.

Hormonal changes, stress, and environmental factors can further contribute to breakouts and skin imbalance.
Light-based therapies such as BBL Forever Clear can help manage acne by addressing these visible processes at the skin’s surface, supporting the reduction of inflammation and bacterial activity.

How Forever Clear BBL Works

BBL Forever Clear uses a three-step, multi-wavelength process to target acne at different skin depths:
Blue Light (420 nm): Targets C. acnes bacteria on the skin’s surface, helping to reduce bacterial load and minimise the risk of new breakouts.

Yellow/Red Light (590 nm): Calms visible redness and irritation while supporting a more even tone.

Infrared Light: Gently warms the deeper layers of the skin to promote natural renewal and collagen activity.

By combining these wavelengths, BBL Forever Clear helps create a clearer and more balanced complexion while maintaining comfort and safety.

BBL can also be used to treat a number of other different skin conditions:
  • Pigmentation and pigmented lesions such as freckles and sun spots
  • Dyschromia (brown or red discoloration of the skin)
  • Redness and flushing
  • Vascular lesions such as spider veins and visible blood vessels (small)
  • Uneven skin texture and tone
  • Skin laxity (BBL Skin Tyte II)
  • Unwanted hair (BBL Forever Bare)
  • Anti-ageing (Forever Young BBL)

FAQs

What does the treatment involve?

Prior to the treatment being performed a full consultation with your doctors and dermal clinicians will ensure that Forever Clear BBL is the right treatment for your particular concerns. Once a treatment plan has been determined your eyes will be protected with safety goggles or glasses. The treatment will feel like a warm snap of an elastic band as the light is absorbed by certain areas.

No pain relief is required however topical local anaesthesia may be applied to more sensitive areas. The procedure will take approximately 30 minutes depending on the size of the area that is being treated. The three step process is completed using blue, red and infrared lights over the treatment area.

Treatment of the underlying causes of acne will also be recommended such as appropriate home care products and lifestyle changes. For the best long term results, preparation is key. Sun exposure, tanning and fake tan is to be avoided for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to treatment.

How long do results last?

The number of treatments varies for each individual. A personalised treatment plan will be provided however this can change at any time depending on your response to the treatment. A combination with other treatment methods can also be used to further enhance your results.

A series of 3 to 6 treatments, spaced two to three weeks apart, is typically recommended to achieve visible improvement.

Results vary based on the severity of acne, hormonal influences, and individual skin response.

Ongoing maintenance sessions and complementary therapies such as medical-grade skincare, chemical peels, or LED therapy may be suggested to support continued skin health.

What happens after my treatment?

Mild redness, warmth, and slight swelling may occur immediately after treatment. This usually resolves within one to three days.
Makeup can be applied once redness subsides, and most people return to normal activities immediately.

Some individuals experience a temporary “purge” phase, where underlying congestion surfaces before clearing, this is a normal part of the skin’s healing process.

Post-treatment care includes:

  • Avoiding heat and heavy exercise for 48 hours
  • Avoiding sun exposure
  • Using gentle skincare and daily SPF 50+
  • Avoiding active ingredients (vitamin A, exfoliants, AHAs/BHAs) for 3–5 days

Your practitioner will provide personalised aftercare instructions and product recommendations to support long-term results.

What are the risks of treatment?

All light-based procedures carry potential risks. At Youth Lab, all Forever Clear treatments are performed by trained practitioners using medical-grade Sciton BBL devices under medical supervision.

Common and expected effects include mild redness, warmth, and transient swelling.
Less common risks include:

  • Temporary hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation
  • Blistering, burns or scabbing (rare)
  • Acne flare-ups due to deep purging of congestion
Post-inflammatory pigmentation (more common in darker skin types)

Forever Clear is not suitable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, taking certain medications, or have recently tanned skin.
